Here is a recipe that was brought to me by a fellow subscriber that she uses in her healthy eating plans. She says she can’t take credit for it, but she loves it and so does her kids. She wanted me to pass it along for the rest of you to give it try. After you do please come back and leave your comments here on the blog.
1 head broccoli
2 Tbsp flaxseed, ground
2 Tbsp sesame seeds
3 Tbsp olive oil
½ tsp sea salt
½ tsp ground pepper
Preheat oven to 450F.
Cut broccoli into 1 inch chunks and soak in bowl of water for 5 minutes.
Drain water from bowl and add all other ingredients to mix thoroughly.
Place on baking sheet and cook in oven for 10-12 minutes.
Serve.

450C? Does that mean 450 degrees Celsius? I want your oven!
Wow!! that sounds fantastic!!! I can’t wait to try it… a huge thank you to your reader and yourself for sharing!!!
GWNN
I didn’t even catch that. I think she means Fahrenheit.
That would be one hot oven if it was celsius.
Mmm………..Although the recipe sounds tasty I don’t think it is very healthy to heat olive oil to a temperature that high. Some good olive oils have a smoke point as low as 200-250°F. Once it reaches smoke point it starts to decompose. The high temperature may damage the precious oils in the seeds too.
It looks good, but the lady at the local spice shop where I get my ground flax
seed, as well as “as is” tells me that flax seed does better when it isn’t cooked,
but added to the mix later, say in salad dressings, in cooked oat meal, and other
hot and cold foods.
What is your take on that point?
Mind you, the lady at the spice shop is one of those Georgian, as in Central
Asian ladies who learns from the local Homeopaths and from the local Grannies
who carry a tradition of what to eat that is healthy for you. So . . .
Well, there is some debate amongst that and as long as you don’t cook it for long periods of time I don’t see the degradation being that great. Now if you cooked flax seed for 45 minutes or an hour I could see it breaking down some. 10-12 minutes in an oven though isn’t going to cause that much damage to the seed.
Like I said though there is debate on this topic so there are probably others that feel differently on this.
