Go Straight to the Bones for Diet Food

Sunday, May 20th, 2012

Boxed, canned, powdered… none of the options in the grocery stores for meat stocks seem like truly healthy eating.  Extra salt, preservatives, and other ingredients do not need to take up space in your otherwise healthy meals.

There is a cheaper and healthier way to get stock, but if you didn’t grow up in a household with dedicated cooks, then this method might be new to you.  (more…)

The Best Way to Eat This Diet Food

Monday, May 7th, 2012

Do you love drinking a glass of freshly-squeezed grapefruit juice on a lazy Saturday morning?

Do you pat yourself on the back for figuring out how to eat healthy while splurging on a special treat?

Of course, fresh whole foods without added components like sugar or salt are as good of a diet food as any.  But you might be missing the mark on healthy eating if you only drink the juice from the fruit and dispose of the rest of it.  (more…)

Eating Right and Drinking Enough Fluids is Essential

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Just imagine what it would be like if you stopped getting all the good nutrition you know you need.  Your cells would stop functioning properly, your blood would become unhealthy, and your muscles would never recover from use, let alone stop growing.

All these terrifying changes would result from a lack of electrolytes.  This group of nutrients is a major component of healthy diets, especially those of active people who strive for healthy weight loss.

Many nutrients make up the category of electrolytes, and in turn, electrolytes do many important jobs to allow the body to function and keep its fluids and other components regulated.

Electrolytes come from a number of different sources, since they are a varied group of nutrients.  (more…)

Use Good Nutrition to Prevent Stress-Induced Illness

Tuesday, April 10th, 2012

People who live stressful lives have one more reason than calmer people to worry about good nutrition.

People were purposely exposed to a cold virus in a research study on the issue of stress and illness.  The participants who said they were stressing over an issue like family or work were two times more likely to develop the symptoms of a cold than those who did not report any stress.

Worried, anxious people do not attract the viruses that are floating around in the environment, so how did this happen, and what does it have to do with healthy eating?  (more…)

Does your healthy weight loss plan make you hungry?

If there is a fitness component to it, then it should.

Our last discussion was about how to eat healthy if breakfast makes you hungry for the rest of the morning.  What about being hungry after you work out?  Should this be happening if you eat well-portioned healthy meals throughout the day?  And when you do get hungry, should you stick to your healthy eating plans and wait until your next meal or snack?  Or should you grab something that will stop your stomach from growling?  (more…)
