According to a study in the journal of Obesity keeping excess weight off can be difficult if you have heavy or overweight friends.
Why is that you ask?
Well, in this study it showed you are less likely to exercise and eat healthy in your free time when you are hanging around friends you are also overweight and not likely to exercise.
It also showed those who hung around friends who are fit and lean may help you lose weight because you adopt many of their habits even if you are not consciously trying to eat healthier or to lose weight.
This is similar to other studies that showed those who hung around overweight unhealthy people were 66% more likely to gain weight just by association and developing their bad habits.
The take home healthy weight loss tip message here is to not necessarily avoid all friends or family that are unhealthy and overweight, but rather incorporate more time spent with healthy thinner friends and family so subconsciously you can start to develop better habits and lose weight in the process.
