The Biggest Loser that I am most proud of

We all know there is the “Biggest Loser” Tv show.  Contestants achieve remarkable weight loss in only 12 weeks.  It is very impressive, but for some it is unrealistic because these contestants don’t have to maintain a full time job, feed kids dinner, take them to soccer practice.  They also get to exercise as much as 6 hours a day.

So of course achieving weight loss like that is impressive, but sometimes hard for you to relate since you are unable to give up all the necessities you have to do every day to pay bills, take care of your family, etc.

Well, I personally have a “Biggest Loser” that I am very proud of because of what he has achieved in only 4 months.

Read more to find out how Mike Barber lost 100 pounds in only 4 months.

This is Mike Barber in September of 2007.  At this point he was already on medication for diabetes primarily due to his weight issues and his bodies inability to efficiently process all the sugars he was eating.

Mike finally became fed up with his bodyweight and ever growing health issues.  More importantly he wanted to be around for his family.

Mike emailed me in September of 2008 and here is what he looked like then.

Someone who doesn't follow healthy eating guidelines for a healthy weight loss dietHere was Mike’s email to me.

“I have been reading through the program and the 30 day meal plan.  This morning was my third consecutive day getting up a 5am and getting the day
started out right.   I have decided NOW is the time to get some things straight in my life. Things that I have controlled over the years I know longer do, such things as getting into my bible and studying the word. Being active in my community working out lifting weights and the list goes on and on.

I became a corporate america slouch litterally going from an athletic mind and body to a person that does nothing. I have noticed I pass up opportunies many times because my appropriate clothing is too tight and it depresses me to get dressed. I have battled depression, which I found that the medicine they put you on is worse than beibg depresses, I developed an attitude where nothing really mattered and I disconnected from everyone and everything. I stopped the medicine a time back and replaced it with the gym. That lasted for many months then my work schedule took over and I quit going to the gym.

Recently I believe the depression was creeping back and taking a strong hold over me. I’m living on three types of diabetes medicines which really is
something I hate and want to get off.   I’ve been meditating on commitment and discipline, praying someone or something will intercede on my behalf and guide down the good trail of success.

Recently I came across your meal planning strategy and the 30 day program.  You have been kind enough to respond to my email request which has been positive. The this past Sunday our. Pastor delivered a message o Discilpline and commitement I our lives.  I believe these things were not by coincidence but by direction from the many prayers I have laid out before our lord.

My wife is my support she is cleaning out the old in both the refrigerator amd pantry and has the 30 day meal program out and making a grocery list.
I have started back lifting weights and walking a mile in the morning / 20 mins or so.

I have noticed that I have absolutly no strength. I can maybe do a pushup I know I can’t do a pullup and embarrassingly in an attempt to bench press 165 pounds I was not even able to move the bar off the bench.   I found out today I can curl and do tricep extensions using 30 pound dumbells.   I used 80 pounds on the LAT pulldowns today 8-10 reps/set.

All this was at home using my home gym.   In the past I have mostly worked out at the gym using the Cybex type equipment. I thought the weight I as using on these machines was a little more substantial – guess I have been kidding myself. At this point in previous go’rounds I would become so frustrated I would probably find something else to do rather than re-evaluating what I should do.

I’m 43 weigh 340 pounds have a body I despise have pain from my head to toes.  Where do I start?

You see Mike didn’t have a celebrity trainer, he didn’t have 6 hours a day and he had a job and a family to take care of.  He knew enough though to start with asking for help and following healthy eating guidelines.  He needed a healthy weight loss diet that would get him results and get him out of this depression and lifestyle that was on track to end prematurely.

Mike started on the Carb Rotation Diet in late September of 2008.  At first Mike and I had many emails back and forth giving him guidance and suggestions.  We worked through his struggles and he consistently provides me updates after he visits his doctor.

Here was Mike’s latest email to me that I received on January 22nd and I felt so proud of him when I read this because I know what he and his family have been through over the last few months and if you notice his emails tone has changed to a more positive and upbeat Mike.

“Hello Jayson, I hope you and your family are well.

I hit the 100 pounds loss mark this morning, weighing in at 235.  That’s 100 pounds lost since I started with you on September 28th.  WOW – that’s all I hear, people that haven’t seen me in a while are just amazed and even those I see here and there can’t believe it.  I have suggested to a good 15-20 people to check out your weight loss program, they seem interested but just don’t display the devotion or dedication to changing their lives as I have, I will continue to pass your name and site on to all I come across.  I hope you don’t mind I recently sent my story in to a local radio station, and gave them your name and Carb Rotation Diet website as well.

By the way, I intend to join the FastTrackToFatLoss body transformation program starting in February, I want to win this competition for my wife, she has done the meal preparations and been there for me, I sent Chad an email and suggested after I win I would like to invite you along.  I plan on maintaing your meal program during the 12 week program.

Next doctor check-in Feb. 27th. goal is to be 225 or less, I plan on leaving the remainder of my diabetes medicines with my doctor during this checkup.”

Thanks Again,

Mike Barber

Here is what Mike looks like today.

I don’t know what I can say about Mike other than Congratulations!  Mike has put in the work, effort and dedication to lose 100 in 4 months.  That is no small feat especially since he maintains a full time job and has a family to take care of.

I am very proud of Mike because I provided him the healthy eating guidelines and the healthy weight loss diet, but I have a lot of people that read this program.  The difference is Mike took action and he stayed with it.  He kept plugging away and never gave up.

I can’t take any credit for that.  That is all Mike and his determination to live a healthier life.

Congratulation Mike!  You deserve every bit of your new healthier life and so does your family.  Especially your wife who has helped every step of the way.

Feel free to leave a comment for Mike on this blog.  I am sure he would appreciate your thoughts and comments.
