We eat 633 hot dogs per second and that is a conservative estimate. American’s eat about 20 billion hot dogs every year.
This doesn’t include sales from sporting events, street vendors or Wal-Mart as these locations do not disclose sales data.
Guesstimates for ballpark hot dog consumption is around 30 million hot dogs during a regular pro season.
So how does this relate to a healthy weight loss food?
Well, it is baseball season so the consumption of hot dogs is definitely on the rise this time of the year.
Hot dogs are not the healthiest of foods and if weight loss is your goal then consuming too many of them will destroy your weight loss efforts.
Though many people think a hot dog is the worst food every, but it is only around 148 calories.
Those that choose a slice of cheese pizza or maybe two because they think it is healthier has 272 calories per average slice.
To summarize foods that you think are healthy may not be as healthy as you think and those that you believe to be unhealthy may not be as bad as you think when compared to other foods.

Hey Jayson,
I think one of the most shocking foods is the Taco Salad in that crispy shell thing it comes in. I’ve seen reports that the shell alone has 84 grams of fat!!
I thought the problem with hot dogs wasn’t that it had high calories but that it was high in fat. The fat content is higher than the protein. Also, hot dogs are loaded with preservatives that aren’t exactly the healthiest thing for one’s body.
Lastly, they are usually eaten in a white bread bun.
So, it’s hard to see any great redeeming quality in a dog from a health and nutritional standpoint.
