Is Your Healthy Weight Loss Diet A Waste Of Time Because Of Your Food Addiction?

There was a commentary published recently in the Canadian Medical Association Journal that has stirred up the controversy again about the concept of food addiction.  If they are accurate your healthy weight loss diet you are following could just be a waste of time.

Some are saying that this food addiction could be at least partly responsible for the obesity epidemic.

Do you believe that?

I have my doubts on this theory.

There has been extensive research done on individuals who have followed healthy weight loss diets and just normal eating patterns in regards to becoming addicted to food.  Some evidence does show that there are tasty foods that do trigger areas of the brain associated with reward, but there is still no medical consensus stating that this can cause a food addiction.  Even with the agreement that some individuals may have more compulsive tendencies than others.

Some of the arguments are blaming it on food manufacturers and their attempt to always make their food taste better than the competitions.  This leading to higher calories and as a result more obesity.

I don’t agree with that because you still have a choice.  There are plenty of healthy options created by food manufacturers that you can choose from.  You can also choose to avoid packaged foods altogether and eat fresh meats, fruits, vegetables, and grains.

What do you think?

Are the food manufacturers to blame?

Are you addicted to some foods and that is causing your weight gain despite following a healthy weight loss diet?

Or is it that you just aren’t making the right choices?

Speak now or forever hold your peace.  :)
