Do you know what benefits red cabbage can add to healthy meals?

Most likely, your answer is no.  Red cabbage is not often included in healthy eating tips, and it is not the first thing that pops into our minds when we think about good nutrition.  But it does give us a clue about how to eat healthy with fruits and vegetables.

Red cabbage is an indicator that consuming colorful vegetables and fruits is a way of eating right to get antioxidants into healthy diets.  The different colors of these foods are produced by flavonoids and carotonoids.  These substances are actually antioxidants that give fruits and vegetables healthy powers like those of red cabbage.

To get the most out of the good nutrition that fresh produce has to offer, make sure you include all different colors in your healthy meals throughout the day.  Red raspberries, orange bell peppers, yellow squash, green apples, blueberries, purple eggplant… the possibilities are endless!  Eating this kind of variety ensures a big range of benefits, from antioxidants to fiber to vitamins.
