When I was young, "Corn Pops" was called "Sugar Pops" and "Honey Smacks" was called "Sugar Smacks." The name change is interesting, eh?

I sometimes buy Multi Grain Cheerios (which don't appear on this list), Honey Nut (which do, as bad) but mostly Cornflakes. And these are for the kids. For myself, it's either a bowl of oatmeal or Bran Flakes. Thanks for the eye-opener!

When my kids were small they liked Cheerios, and they were handy to take along for "hush money." I never liked Cheerios or most cereals, but I do like Kashi and Swiss oatmeal.

Yes, I am one of the bad ones that has not broken that habit (got to have my cereal). For the most part I go with off brand honey nut cherrios, but sometimes I get the honey smacks. Still working on nutritional changes, one baby step at a time, I try to improve things!

I remember as a kid, I loved Sugar Frosted Flakes. Even though they were already heavily sugared, I would add extra sugar on top of them. I was such a sugar addict. Now, at 52, I don't eat any boxed cereals. I only eat oatmeal (not instant either) or another whole grain.

No, I don't eat these, I mix my cereals myself. But it was just the other day when I told a friend of mine what I usually eat for breakfast and he said: "Oh, if I eat cereals for breakfast, I could go on eating all day!" Then I asked him, what cereals he eats and if they contain a lot of sugar and he replied: "No, no, no, just plain corn flakes!!! No sugar!!!" I was not surprised at all to hear that. Especially not as surprised as he was when I told them that they actually were pure sugar... :-D

I have Celiac disease, & this was caused by eating too much fibre when I was pregnant. The midwives insisted that I didn't take laxatives for constipation. I was told to 'drink 8 pints of water a day & eat 20 grams of bran a day'. I couldn't keep the water down & I developed severe candiasis which led to Celiac disease, so I don't eat breakfast cereal. Most breakfast cereals contain wheat & corn, which give me severe problems - not to mention the loads of sugar & high-fructose corn syrup, which nobody should be eating.

I'm glad to say that i don't buy these as a general rule. Sometimes Cheerios, but even that is rare. At least the fiber in Cheerios probably even helps to neutralize any effects of the sugar as well. So, we haven't been eating much cereal lately. When i do, it is sometimes grape nuts, with a healthier sugar or just raisins. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison on the "healthier" cereals like Kashi, etc., and those that seem to be healther with the flakes, like Honey Bunches of Oats, etc. I don't care much for doughnuts, either, knowing that they are full of sugar, and also hating the stuffed feeling that they give....well, thanks for this! I was shared in part with my young ones here (thanks for the back-up! ; )
