Battle of the Sexes: Healthy Weight Loss

If you had to guess who is more obese – men or women – which would you say?  We’re not talking about the heaviest people, but the percentage of each group that is considered overweight or obese.

Think about different contexts where healthy weight loss and gain are noticeable.  Do you see more men or women walking around with extra weight around their midsections?  Which gender do you notice eating right at a restaurant instead of splurging?  Who is represented more at your gym?

We all have different experiences and are a part of different environments, so we would probably come to different conclusions about which sex is better at healthy diets.

Fad Diets Offer Helpful Hints for Eating Right

Have you heard of the apple diet?

Well, it doesn’t actually exist.  But there is a healthy eating tip that involves consuming an apple before every meal.  This healthy weight loss trick was the focus of a study, and the study found that people consumed less calories at lunch when they ate a raw apple 15 minutes before their meal.

This happened because the snack started making them feel full before they even began their meal.  And it is okay to feel full from an apple because it is low in calories and high in good nutrition.  Also, eating snacks right before eating healthy meals probably tricks the brain into thinking that less food needs to be eaten since something has already been consumed.

We know that eating right includes lean protein sources, but we tend to struggle with eating enough fruits and vegetables and this can cause a lower AOC level.

Our objective to lose weight has been around much longer than any of us have thought.  How to lose weight programs date back at least 150 years. 

Even though we have been trying to lose weight for at least 150 years our waistlines are bigger than ever and we have an obesity epidemic on our hands. 

So what gives.  Why have we gotten worse instead of better in regards to trying to lose weight.  I mean we have had 150 years to get it right.

Well, according to some researchers at George Washington University it is pretty expensive to take care of your health if you are considered obese.  They calculated the cost of obesity by using a series of indirect costs, lost work, and also direct costs such as obesity related medical costs.
